Job Description

The EW Antenna Team at Selex ES in Luton is looking for an experienced SC-cleared Lead Engineer to head up a new theme of research for the company. The ideal candidate will have a track record of leadership and stealth design including sensor (antenna) design and integration.

 

Key Responsibility Areas

To design and develop EW antenna installations for future stealthy air vehicles. Typically working at frequencies up to 40GHz, this role will be based at our Luton site and will include close collaboration with other defence industry organisation’s within the UK. This role will cover researching options, carrying out detailed modelling, designing and performing evaluation (test). Modern EM analysis tools and test systems will be used.

 

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge

  • A good first degree in electronics or communications engineering, physics or a closely related subject, preferably with RF/microwave options. Possibly an MSc / PhD / EngD with a microwave bias.
  • Ideally some significant experience in the field of stealth engineering. This skill set is not taught in the UK and so a professional with relevant experience is sort.
  • Ideally some experience of antenna design is also of significant benefit.
  • Microwave EM simulation using tools such as CST Microwave Studio / FEKO or other FDTD / MoM codes is essential.
  • Experience and skilled use of RF/Microwave testing techniques and test equipment (e.g. VNAs, Antenna Range Measurements).
  • Good leadership, interpersonal and presentational skills.
  • Proven ability to interact at professional levels with multinational working teams is a bonus.

 

Intrinsic Job Factors

This is an office-based role using display screen equipment working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment. As part of this role you will be expected to travel possibly both in the UK and abroad and you may also be expected to stay overnight as part of this travel. Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad hoc basis will be required. Driving is also essential.
