Supporting UK Armed Forces

Supporting UK Armed Forces

Finmeccanica recognises the contribution that the members of the Armed Forces make to the nation through their service and sacrifices as a result of their duty. Therefore, we have a moral obligation to those who have served in the past, in the Armed Forces – whether Regular or Reserve – to those who are now serving, and of course to their families which play a significant role in supporting the Armed Forces members.

Finmeccanica in the UK and all its operating companies – Selex ES, AgustaWestland, Telespazio and DRS Technologies UK – are supporters of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant, demonstrating their pledge to the Armed Forces Community. As defined in our pledge, we have committed to uphold in our business dealings the key principles of the Armed forces Covenant which are:

  • ‘No member of the Armed Forces Community should face disadvantage in the provision of public and commercial services compared to any other citizen.’
  • ‘In some circumstances special treatment may be appropriate for the injured or bereaved.’

Finmeccanica will endeavour to demonstrate its commitment through several pledges. As stated in our pledge, some of our commitments will be to promote the fact we are an armed forces-friendly organisation and publicising this within our organisation, to support the employment of young and old veterans, to support our employees who choose to be members of the Reserve Forces, and to support our local cadet units, either in local community or local schools, where possible.

We have also engaged to participate in the Joint Graduate Training Army Scheme which aims to attract graduates to undertake a Reserve Commission whilst participating in one of our graduate programmes. Following the Army’s selection process, the training will consist of an eight-week intensive programme at Sandhurst and after its successful completion the employee will become a Reserve Commissioned Officer.
