Vision and Values
Excellence is at the core of everything we do
at Finmeccanica – something which is translated through the
following values:
- We work together with our customers and
suppliers to build close and
enduring relationships based on a transparent
understanding of our respective aspirations and challenges.
- We take pride in the technical versatility
and depth of our science-based organisation and its ability to
provide leading-edge solutions for our
customers.
- We are a customer-focused
network of companies that strives to ensure that we understand what
is required of us and how best we can meet and exceed
expectations.
- In our complex markets, customers demand
end-to-end solutions, so we are making through-life capability
management a value-for-money reality.
- We recruit and develop talented and
skilled people and share learning and models of best
practice across the international group.
- We are firmly committed to our
corporate responsibility agenda and take
a proactive approach to sustainable procurement and business
ethics, based on the key principals of Integrity,
Professionalism, Responsibility, Loyalty, Fairness and
Commitment; we cultivate a culture of safety and
community development, as illustrated in our corporate
responsibility brochure.
- Above all, we continue to invest in the UK
and are committed to excellence through
innovation.
Building upon these values, our vision is to
be a partner of choice within the UK defence and security community
by delivering outstanding end-to-end solutions.
Excellence through innovation
Our leading position in the UK as a
world-class advanced engineering company is built on our sustained
investment in Research and Technology and world-class facilities,
helping keep the UK at the cutting-edge of innovation and advanced
manufacturing.
Our competitive edge lies in the quality of
our individual centres of excellence and their core technical
expertise, combined with the collective ability to develop and
deliver integrated systems and solutions. Our global footprint
enables us to leverage capabilities across all our worldwide
businesses.
We play a leading part in defence technology
centres of excellence and nurture strong links with more than 30
major universities throughout the country, where we are involved in
around 50 research projects.
Incremental technology insertion is at the
heart of through-life capability planning and management. Our
customers are facing unprecedented demands to respond to rapidly
evolving challenges under constrained financial resources.
Finmeccanica is fully committed to meeting these needs by
developing cost-effective, adaptable and responsive solutions
through a whole-life approach.
We believe that the success of capability
management results from ensuring a comprehensive understanding of
customer requirements as they evolve over time; establishing a
partnered approach to support; and planning technology upgrades to
ensure capability is optimally achieved through-life.
Our UK businesses rank among the top suppliers
to the UK MoD in terms of performance on programmes and quality of
the relationship. Finmeccanica prides itself on recruiting the very
best. Our operating companies run flourishing graduate and
apprentice schemes for over 400 trainees nationwide. The
Finmeccanica National Apprentice Scheme has been given a glowing
Ofsted report, with an overall grade of ‘Outstanding’; and the
company has received numerous awards for its pension schemes,
including the Professional Pensions award for “Pension Scheme of
the Year”.

Finmeccanica recognises that delivery of
leading-edge capability requires working closely with an extensive
supply network. Much of the work undertaken by our companies sees
them focus their expertise on design, development, assembly,
integration, testing and certification; this approach requires a
robust and sustainable manufacturing supply chain which is rich in
SMEs.
It is crucial for our businesses to be able to
leverage developments in new technologies, as they emerge. This
often means working with small start-up businesses, university
spin-offs, or specialist SMEs. We recognise that smaller
enterprises can have limited resilience, capacity and cash
resources and therefore we have designed our project and supplier
management processes to help them through collaborative development
processes, shield them from some of the project risk, and, on
occasion, help protect their commercial viability. Our companies
are founding members of the SC21 initiative in the UK which seeks
to structure supply chains to encourage collaborative capability
development activity, identifying and mitigating risk at the
earliest opportunity.
