Job Description

The Hardware discipline at Selex ES in Luton is looking for an experienced SC cleared Lead Engineer to lead the currently highly skilled function for activities relating to the LRI (Line Replaceable Item) sub-systems.

 

The successful candidate will have a track record of strong leadership in developing multiple products through definition, integration and qualification processes. This role suits an experienced Hardware Engineer with a background in Firmware or Circuit design, or a Systems Engineer with a good electronics understanding.

 

Key Responsibility Areas

• Overall responsibility for cost, schedule and performance within Hardware Engineering for the LRI Sub-system Definition, Design, Integration and Qualification
• Current team consists of 24 heads deployed across the products developed at Capability Green, with an expected growth in 2015 to c.30 heads
• Own and deliver Training, Tools and Processes deployed within the team and LRI level activities.
• Manage the head-count and workload for team, including personnel development and recruitment, ensuring that project demand is accurate and required heads are supplied
• Manage the team to ensure LRI definition, design Integration and Qualification work is delivered using a structured design process
• Ensure progress and performance is reported to both projects and the Hardware Engineering Function
• Design Review Chair for complex designs
• Bids and Estimation for area of responsibility, ensuring all activities and disciplines and activities required to deliver LRI work packages are covered

 

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge

The following skills and experience are required:

• Educated to degree level in engineering or related subject, or equivalent.
• Used to working in an environment where the need to deliver equipment on time and to the right quality are paramount
• Experience in delivering products for use in harsh high integrity environments.
• Experience in defining the architecture for complex LRIs, flowing down to module level specifications.
• Experience of Integrating LRIs, resolving any defects
• Experience of Qualifying Military products leading to Design Certification and delivery, transferring the product into Production.
• Good working knowledge of required processes, such as Failure Reviewing and Change Management.
• Experience of managing subcontractors through to successful delivery.
• Work Package Management and Team Leadership Experience.
• Decision making based on a sound engineering background in electronic product design
• Can demonstrate a successful track record in design innovation and problem solving.

• Ability to interface with suppliers of key components and assemblies will be required

• Able to tailor communications to the appropriate level, from senior management through to junior staff.

This is an office based role using display screen equipment working full time hours which can often be in a demanding environment, with occasional travel throughout the UK and abroad.
