What are the deadlines for applying for the Apprentice Programmes?
We recruit from October to March
How do I apply?
Applicants are required to complete the on line application process on the link provided on our webpage.
What happens next?
The timetable for the online application process is:
- Online Recruitment is open from the end of September
- Online testing will take place from November to March
- Assessment Centres will take place from February to April
- Conditional Offers issued for May
- Company Induction in September
As an apprentice, when would I commence working for Selex ES?
You will be asked to start during September.
Where will I be based?
This is dependent upon the specific opportunity you have applied for. You will be able to talk further with our Recruitment team.
How much time will I be required to spend at college?
Applicants for technical/manufacturing apprenticeships are required to spend up to 9 months full time at college, then day release for the remainder of the scheme. Business apprentices undertake day release throughout the duration of the scheme.

Do you only recruit engineering apprentices?
Our requirements change each year, depending on the business need. All active vacancies will be detailed on our website.
I’m not a UK National, can I still apply?
As a defence contractor there are security obligations placed on the Company meaning that all our applicants must be able to successfully achieve the relevant level of security clearance to join us. Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor Tier 2 visa applications for apprentice positions as they do not meet the minimum qualifying criteria for sponsorship requirements as laid out in the government guidelines. Applicants need to have been resident in the UK for the past 5 years.
Is there an upper age limit?
There is no upper age limit for our graduate programme. Due to funding restrictions, apprentices must complete the four year training programme by their 26th Birthday. Therefore can be no older than 22, the August they join.
Can I apply for more than one apprenticeship opportunity?
We ask that you select the opportunity most suited to you and only make one application per year.
What happens once I have submitted my application?
Once you have submitted your application you will receive an email notification to confirm your application has been received. Your application will then be reviewed and if successful you will be invited to the next recruitment stage.
If I am unsuccessful can I apply again next year?
Yes, you can apply next year.
Will the company support me to gain additional qualifications?
Support for additional qualifications is available but have to align to our business requirements and your development needs.
What happens when I finish my training scheme?
If you successfully complete your apprenticeship or graduate programme, we will support you to transition into a suitable role subject to the requirements of the business.
When do you open and close for applications to the Apprentice Scheme?
The application window for vacancies will be communicated on the website.
How long is the selection process?
We recommend you submit your application as soon as possible, Assessment Centres and Interviews will begin in January and continue until all roles have been filled. We will cease advertising a role once all available positions have been filled. Dependant on fulfilment of the requirements, the process can take until August to complete.
When will I hear if I have been successful?
We will communicate with all applicants via their registered email address, so please ensure this is an email address you will have access to during holidays and after the academic year has ended. Please ensure your mailbox is set up to receive emails from an Finmeccanica email address. All candidates will be emailed an update once their application has been reviewed, please be patient, the recruitment process can take until August to complete.
Will I be required to travel during the selection process?
If you are invited to an interview, you will be required to travel to Yeovil, Somerset.
Will I be reimbursed for travel expenses?
We are unable to reimburse travel expenses incurred during the selection process.
How long are the training programmes?
An apprenticeship will take four years to complete. Our graduate scheme is two years in duration.
If successful, when would I start?
If you are successful, apprentices will start after the August bank holiday 2016. Graduates will start October 2016.
If successful, would I be able to receive help with relocating if I need to relocate?
The company offers a relocation package and will support you through the relocation process. Details will be provided at the offer stage of the recruitment process.
If I am unsuccessful, will this affect me if I apply next year?
No, this will not affect you if you apply next year. Whatever stage you reach, will provide you with experience of an application process which may assist you in the future.
If I am unsuccessful, can I gain feedback?
We offer feedback to all interviewed candidates. Unfortunately, due to the volume of applications received, we are unable to provide feedback prior to this stage of the recruitment process.
