Our People
Innovation at Finmeccanica starts with our people. Every day we are dedicated to attracting, developing and maintaining the best talent. We know that it is often the gaps which provide us with more information and inspiration to change; this is why we are constantly optimising our practices to ensure that our people are equipped with the best skills in order to fulfil their potential.
Before we start changing and improving, we need to know what we look like. One of our greatest challenges is to tackle the outdated stereotypes and to encourage more females to take up a career in engineering. The manufacturing and engineering industry faces many challenges in this respect, but we are confident that Finmeccanica can contribute positively to this change.
We are supporters of ‘Think, Act, Report’ – a Government initiative which aims to promote gender equality in the workplace – and of the ‘Your Life’ Campaign which aims to encourage more females to study STEM subjects and to attract more women into engineering and technology. Our current female workforce is 15% in the UK, 9% of who are engineers. One of our operating companies in the UK already has 25% female representation and Finmeccanica companies also have 17% females currently undertaking an engineering apprenticeship, both figures that are well above the industry averages. In addition, all our companies have almost 30% of females working in support and sales functions. Our ongoing target is to increase these numbers and to share our progress and best practices.
