Finmeccanica UK Chief Executive Alberto de Benedictis calls for
more international collaboration in countering cyber threats
Mons, 11 September 2012 – Addressing the 2012
NATO Information Assurance Symposium and Expo (NIAS) in Mons today,
Alberto de Benedictis, Chief Executive of Finmeccanica UK,
highlighted the need for global collaboration to meet Cyber
Defensive Counter-Measures.
NIAS is a key event in NATO’s information
assurance calendar, which brings together a carefully selected
audience of thought leaders and decision makers, to participate in
a range of plenary and workshop sessions.
In his keynote address, Mr de Benedictis said that a
multinational dialogue on cyber defences is crucial for raising the
profile of the problem, and that with what we see happening in
Cyber space, governments and organisations will have no choice but
to raise the awareness to Board level and address it through their
Governance structure.
Mr de Benedictis told the conference: “I don’t
believe that any Government or corporate, whether custodian of a
major infrastructure or of commercial IP, can ignore the clear and
present danger that the Cyber eco-system now poses.”
Last week, the UK Government stepped up its
efforts to signal to its business sector the concerns about its
Cyber vulnerabilities, and emphasised the need to take serious
action to shore up their defences. “As organisations, we recognise
the need to step up the visibility of these risks to the highest
levels of our governance, and we need to understand our
vulnerabilities and embrace the necessary changes and innovation,”
Mr de Benedictis said.
“Finmeccanica has, over the past few years,
matured an in-depth understanding of the intricacies of this
environment and, importantly, the diversity and complexity of our
customers’ needs. Finmeccanica Cyber Solutions not only brings
together the expertise that lies within our Group, but that of
best-in-class partners, to share with our customers a practical and
effective way forward to address their most demanding Cyber defence
needs,” Mr de Benedictis added.
In February 2012, a Finmeccanica Cyber
Solutions Team led by Finmeccanica and Northrop Grumman was
selected by the NATO Consultation, Command and Control (NATO C3)
Agency to develop,
implement and support the NATO Computer Incident Response
Capability (NCIRC) – Full Operating Capability (FOC). Combining
the capabilities, resources and expertise of both organisations
spanning the UK, US and Italy, the team will deliver an extensive
managed service; providing information assurance to around 50 NATO
sites and headquarters throughout 28 countries worldwide.
