'Talent, technology and growth: Finmeccanica’s regeneration
strategy' by Dr Pier Francesco Guarguaglini, Chair and CEO,
Finmeccanica
Maintaining a strong European defence aerospace industry is
crucial to supporting high quality engineering jobs. Size matters
– if you don’t make that fighting
weight, you won’t be able to compete, and engineer-led Finmeccanica
has grown into a 73,000 employee, €18bn turnover contender.
Key to Finmeccanica’s success has been strategic
agility: sSeizing strategic acquisition targets as the
opportunities arise; developing new technologies and product that
enhance the competitiveness; building a strong human capital base
by investing in skills and competencies; and entering alliances
with global players, e.g. Boeing with the 787, and Thales with the
Space Alliance.
Finmeccanica’s strategic agility can also be seen with its role
as a systems integrator – to orchestrate suppliers’ network across
industrial sectors – and as prime contractor – to operate
service-intensive activities to meet evolving customer needs.
