The UK Government views space as a key industrial sector and is supporting industry and academia to advance the UK’s global position as a leading provider of space-related technologies and services. In 2010, UK industry and government worked together to propose an ambitious 20-year strategy to capture 10% of the estimated £40bn global space market.

Finmeccanica has a world-class portfolio of space capabilities, supporting satellite manufacturers and operators worldwide, having been involved in Earth Observation, Scientific Exploration, Telecommunications and Navigation programmes for over 50 years.

Through VEGA Space, Finmeccanica offers a full spectrum of space technologies and services in the UK, including satellite systems and applications development, operations support, geo-information services and communication networks and connectivity. SELEX Galileo also designs and manufactures optical payloads, solar arrays and radio frequency equipment for both civil and military applications.

Finmeccanica is a key contributor to the UK Government’s initiative to strengthen its space industry and is a founding partner in the newly established International Space Innovation Centre at Harwell. As such, Finmeccanica is uniquely placed to help organisations develop long-term

• Integrated Communications – Finmeccanica develops and markets new services for satellite systems, as well as building and managing communications networks that integrate satellite and ground-based infrastructure, with the aim of responding effectively to the needs of the business and institutional markets, media and broadcast sectors, and global telecommunications operators.
• Programme and Project Support – Finmeccanica provides the management support that enables clients to successfully transform strategy into measurable benefits. Based on complete understanding of systems architectures, we work with our clients to plan and deliver complex programmes to achieve successful outcomes with low operational risk.
• End-to-End Ground Systems – Our end-to-end ground segment offering includes the procurement or development of ground segment systems, and, more importantly, the overlying system and programmatic aspects.
• Simulations and Modelling – Finmeccanica has developed many operational simulators and has been instrumental in the development of the European Space Agency’s simulation infrastructure.  Through our heritage, we have developed a portfolio of smart solutions to support the complete programme lifecycle.
• Training Solutions – Finmeccanica combines advanced learning practices, technology-based training and performance support techniques to identify and bridge human capability gaps, ensuring organisational performance improvement.
• Systems and Operations Engineering – Finmeccanica’s staff are skilled in all aspects of platform engineering, geostationary, low Earth orbit and interplanetary operations and scientific and telecommunication payloads, providing us with the flexibility and experience to engage with the widest range of customers, including civil and military programmes.
• Hardware Development – We develop and produce optical payloads, RF equipment, photovoltaic assemblies, power conditioning & distribution units and robotic arms.
• Mobile Satellite Services – Offering the very best in mobile satellite communications, and providing broadband data and voice services in the world’s remotest locations with a reliable and easy-to-use service.
