Multiple Threats, Integrated Solutions

Recent world events have demonstrated that international Governments, industry and citizens are increasingly at risk of having their activities disrupted by piracy, terrorism, energy failure and natural disaster.

Finmeccanica provides security and national resilience solutions that help to mitigate the risks facing government organisations, critical national infrastructure and underlying economic institutions across the international community. The solutions the group provides cover the lifecycle of threat analysis, requirements’ evolution, cost/capability and risk assessment; through to procurement, implementation, operation and in-service management.

The tailored integration of products and services developed by Finmeccanica has resulted in the Group taking responsibility for the safety and security of national borders (both air space and coastlines), major global sporting events, and international leadership summits for both the G8 and NATO.

These solutions comprise a range of leading-edge technologies. SELEX Elsag and SELEX Galileo both provide a suite of sensors including biometric identity and vehicle recognition systems, as well as secure and resilient radio communications and real-time, high resolution video links. Both provide security co-ordinators with a comprehensive intelligence picture for the most complex operational landscape. These data sources are integrated with command and control and event management systems, provided by SELEX Systems Integration and SELEX Elsag, that continually monitor the data received, track individuals or vehicles, and identify threats and anomalous behaviour – ultimately enabling the emergency services, law enforcement, or intelligence agencies to respond.

Finmeccanica continues to work in partnership with an extended international supply chain to ensure that its integrated security solutions continue to deliver best value and operational effectiveness.

Within Finmeccanica's UK operating companies, the following services are provided in support of security and resilience:

  • Security Accreditation – Our security accreditation services provide clients with confidence that they are conducting business in accordance with the most appropriate security standards. We have many years’ experience delivering accreditation up to the most stringent UK government standards, which enables us to advise clients on the most appropriate security approach to help define and achieve their security needs, according to the relevant accreditation scheme.
  • Information assurance and Secure Systems – We design, implement and manage COTS-based information systems that have a proven track record of facilitating secure data sharing across some of the most sensitive areas of UK intelligence community. This capability helps underpin the national defence and security strategies improving operational capability by enabling intelligence to be disseminated as and when required, enabling decision makers to take informed and decisive action.
  • Professional communications – Working across UK Government, homeland defence and security, the emergency services, transportation, utilities, enterprise, and the telecommunications markets, we provide innovative, integrated and resilient secure communications and information solutions that enable customers to communicate securely at all times, including times of emergency, and ensure that business information is kept confidential, available and with integrity preserved.
  • Satellite communications – Since operational continuity planning for emergency situations is becoming increasingly important, most organisations have a designated alternative site from which to operate. However, the uncertainty of today’s environment leads to the need for a more flexible approach. We have therefore designed and delivered Mobile Command and Control communications facilities to meet our clients needs.
