Security and Resilience

Multiple Threats, Integrated Solutions

As governments around the world develop national security strategies to protect society against an increasingly wide range of threats, risks and instabilities, Finmeccanica and its subsidiary companies can draw on a broad base of expertise, processes and technologies. These were developed in both civilian and military safety-critical systems, and deliver pragmatic, integrated solutions for increasingly complex non-military domains such as Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) protection; territory control and civil protection; maritime and border security, and major events management and security.

Our consulting services and integrated, networked solutions address a wide range of security, resilience and business continuity challenges. They include everything, from the earliest stages of programme definition right through to delivering a complete systems integration capability. That means providing risk assessment, threat identification, physical and cyber protection of crisis management, and always with an emphasis on delivering and embedding operational, effective solutions.

In the UK, Finmeccanica is engaged across the security and resilience community, helping those organisations, government departments, and other agencies responsible for the protection of the UK, to develop innovative and co-ordinated responses to the natural and man-made threats facing the country’s borders, infrastructure and citizens. Our company has a strong heritage of providing independent and expert advice on the benefits and risks associated with information sharing, as well as designing the secure systems that enable it. We deliver complete control centre and sensor solutions that manage traffic in the demanding realms of air, maritime and rail.

In addition to this global in-house expertise, Finmeccanica partners with specialist suppliers to develop best of breed security and resilience solutions that match the specific challenges of each individual client.

Finmeccanica works across defence, national security agencies, health, utilities, transport, energy and the emergency services, to ensure that transformation initiatives are conceived and managed effectively. We ensure that new technology is appropriately applied and sufficiently robust to deliver the necessary levels of interoperability and assurance to meet the UK’s security and resilience challenges.

Within Finmeccanica's UK operating companies, the following services are provided in support of security and resilience:

  • Cyber Security – We operate at the forefront of the UK’s cyber security agenda. Our track record in developing secure information systems for the UK’s military and intelligence services provides the strong foundation on which we help the UK meet the risks inherent in its digitisation of government services and national security capability. Our independent advice and pragmatic solutions address the threat of malicious cyber attacks which now face the UK and the CNI on which it is reliant.
  • Security Accreditation – Our security accreditation services provide clients with confidence that they are conducting business in accordance with the most appropriate security standards. We have many years’ experience delivering accreditation up to the most stringent UK government standards, which enables us to advise clients on the most appropriate security approach to help define and achieve their security needs, according to the relevant accreditation scheme.
  • Information security and Secure Information Systems – We design, implement and manage COTS-based information systems that have a proven track record of facilitating secure data sharing across some of the most sensitive areas of UK intelligence community. This capability helps underpin the national defence and security strategies improving operational capability by enabling intelligence to be disseminated as and when required, enabling decision makers to take informed and decisive action.
  • Professional communications – Working across UK Government, homeland defence and security, the emergency services, transportation, utilities, enterprise, and the telecommunications markets, we provide innovative, integrated and resilient secure communications and information solutions that enable customers to communicate securely at all times, including times of emergency, and ensure that business information is kept confidential, available and with integrity preserved.
  • Satellite communications – Since operational continuity planning for emergency situations is becoming increasingly important, most organisations have a designated alternative site from which to operate. However, the uncertainty of today’s environment leads to the need for a more flexible approach. We have therefore designed and delivered Mobile Command and Control communications facilities to meet our clients needs.
