VEGA supports Royal Navy Capability Planning

11 March 2010 – VEGA Consulting Services Ltd (VEGA), a Finmeccanica company, has won a contract with the UK Navy Command to help assess the operational telecommunication needs of the Royal Navy’s surface platforms.

VEGA, and its partner Net Consulting, are providing a Technical Performance Management solution that will enable the Royal Navy to identify how applications and IP services are being used on board each platform. The solution also provides analysis of bandwidth consumption as well as the application response time and user experience. The data collected will then allow VEGA to simulate the impact of infrastructure changes and produce “what if” scenarios for the new Queen Elizabeth Class Aircraft Carrier.

As a result, Navy Command will be able to understand the impact of data traffic across its information systems and, in turn, make informed decisions on the IS capacity required to deliver optimum operational capability.

VEGA was awarded the contract through the FATS3 procurement vehicle and was chosen by Navy Command because its solution offered an efficient and cost-effective way of understanding how to maximise the capability of its surface fleet. VEGA and Net Consulting demonstrated the benefits of their solutions through exercises already successfully delivered for both the TYPHOON team and on the JC2SP application suite.

The first trial of VEGA and Net Consulting’s Technical Performance Management solution takes place on board HMS Ark Royal over a three-month period, with the first of the data available for analysis towards the end of March 2010.

VEGA Managing Director, Paul MacGregor, said: “We are very excited to be supporting Navy Command as they look to ensure that Royal Navy fleet provides optimum capability at the front line and maximum efficiency for the defence budget. We are also extremely honoured they have chosen to work with VEGA and our partners Net Consulting.”
