SELEX Communications exhibits emergency communications trailer at UK Emergency Services Show 2010

24 November 2010 – SELEX Communications, a Finmeccanica company, is exhibiting its operationally proven concept of scalable, secure and resilient communications to provide users ranging from government authorities to utilities with a cost-effective solution to the mission-critical problems faced by first responders and other mobile users at the Emergency Services Show, Stoneleigh Park, UK, between 24-25 November 2010.

By focusing on the elements central to resolving the emergency communications situation, use of valuable resources can be optimised. A modular approach allows complex communications solutions to be built up as and when required, giving instant reliable communications with minimal equipment.

Typically, these are embodied in a towed mobile trailer, equipped with:

  • Mobile communications, including hand-held radios for local operations
  • Satellite communications, providing a backhaul link to a central control centre
  • Pump-up mast, to ensure communications coverage
  • A self-contained power supply

Both voice and data communications are created around the incident and back to the central control point. The trailer, designed for rapid deployment, can be made operational within minutes of arriving at the scene. Additional capability can include video-conferencing, CCTV, remote IT capability/access for business continuity applications, Wifi hot spot and satellite TV.

The emergency communications trailer concept was developed in conjunction with a large UK energy distribution company. It provides a vital communications capability both for day-to-day operations; and during major incidents and emergencies, when it may not be possible to rely on conventional public communications systems and power sources.

Other capabilities on show are its Broadband Global Area Network, Brent and Thamer crypto systems, Extended Communications System for Digital Mobile Radio (ECOS-D) , airborne TETRA, video streaming and the company’s Information Assurance capability.
