SELEX Communications Intelligent Information Dissemination
(I2D) significantly enhances bandwidth availability
9 November, 2010 - Trials of the SELEX Communications (a
Finmeccanica company) Intelligent Information Dissemination (I2D)
product undertaken with Telespazio (a Finmeccanica/Thales company)
have demonstrated a saving of around 90% of satellite bandwidth
when I2D is used to intelligently manage information flow around a
communications network to maximise efficiency. The trials took
place at SELEX Communications’ plant in Genoa, Italy, and witnessed
the highly successful time-critical passage of hydrographical
data.
I2D was designed to solve the widely experienced issues of
limited bandwidth, inefficient bandwidth usage, multiple
information requests being made by the same location, and
stove-piped systems or communication paths. The product has been
deployed in the UK to support a variety of information types and
has already provided significant savings on bandwidth usage.
I2D is now available to communications network operators to
maximise information to be transported around a network or to
substantially reduce their bandwidth expenditure and it can now
deliver information in even greater volumes than the available
bandwidth would normally support by using innovative
techniques.
I2D also increases the utility of low bandwidth systems, such as
HF and soldier radios, supporting data distribution to
disadvantaged users. I2D’s innovative techniques deliver excellent
results, enabling the distribution of significant ISTAR products,
such as high definition images. This capability has been
successfully demonstrated on a number of in-service communications
systems.
The system profiles users and information to ensure users find
the product they require and do not have to request it to be
resent. I2D can link legacy or proprietary systems together as an
information gateway.
