SELEX Communications supplies new headset for UK Bowman
communications programme
18 May 2010 – SELEX
Communications, a Finmeccanica company, has completed the
development and supply of 1,000 new dual-sided headsets for
introduction into the UK Bowman communications programme through
prime contractor General Dynamics UK (GD UK).
The Bowman Lightweight Dual Sided
Headset (BLDH) is a replacement for the Bowman Staff User Headset,
which has been supplied into the programme by SELEX Communications
during the last decade.
The new headset addresses end-user
requirements for a dual-sided headset reflecting improvements in
technology and the demands of overseas theatres. It fits under all
in-service helmets, including the MK6a and Mk7, and is compatible
with in-service hearing protection. Removable ear covers increase
Situational Awareness and air circulation. The headset is lighter
and offers improved comfort, due to more flexible and simple
adjustment, therefore reducing user fatigue in operations.
Following the completion of the supply
of the new SELEX Communications headset, GD UK has placed an order
for a further 1,500 units.
Phil Robinson, UK Senior
Vice-President, says: “We are committed to Connecting &
Protecting our Armed Forces. This is a further example of our
partnering to do so. Our design meets the needs of the modern
warfighter. We look forward to further co-operation with GD UK in
the future.”
